Ingredients:
3 1/4 cups self-rising flour |
2 teaspoons ground ginger |
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves |
1/2 cup firm unsalted butter |
2/3 cup dark brown sugar |
1/3 cup molasses |
1 egg, lightly beaten |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and grease two cookie sheets thoroughly. 2. Put the flour and spices in a food processor. 3. Cut the butter into small pieces, add to the processor, and blend until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. 4. Add the sugar, molasses, and egg, and mix to a dough. 5. Wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes. 6. Roll out the mixture on a floured surface. 7. Cut out rounds or squares and place on the cookie sheets. 8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the shapes have risen slightly and appear a little paler in color. 9. Leave for two minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool. |
