A recipe from my great grandmother who's from Denmark. This is not a quick bake recipe, need time and patience to make this.
Ingredients:
crust
1 c. flour
1/2 c. butter
1 t. water
topping
1 c. water
1/2 c. butter
1 c. flour
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla or almond extract
frosting
1 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. almond extract
1 t. butter
1 t. cream
1/2 c. almond slices
Directions:
1. Crust:
2. Mix ingredients thoroughly, only add enough of the water as needed to hold together,pat on cookie sheet in 2 long strips about 3 to 4 inches wide.
3. Topping:
4. Heat oven to 375°. Heat water and butter over medium high to boiling point. As it is taken from the stove add flour and stir until smooth. Add eggs all at once, beating until smooth. Add extract and beat in. Spread mixture lightly over crusts. Bake for 45 minutes.
5. Frosting:
6. Mix all ingredients, except the sliced almonds, and spread on pastry. Evenly garnish the pastry with the sliced almonds.
