This came from an old 1940's recipe book. I love the taste of the sauce. It is very predictable. Ingredients:
1 cup crushed pineapple |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/2 chopped green pepper |
1/4 cup chopped pimiento |
1/2 clove garlic, mashed |
1/2 cup cider vinegar |
1/4 cup water |
2 tablespoons soy sauce |
10 drops tabasco sauce |
2 tablespoons cornstarch |
1/4 cup cold water |
Directions:
1. Use 1 Quart glass or enamel sauce pan. 2. Combine pineapple, sugar green pepper, pimiento, garlic, vinegar, 1/4 cup water, the soy sauce, and Tabasco. 3. Mix and heat slowly 5 minutes. 4. Remove garlic. 5. Stir cornstarch into 1/4 cup of water until smooth. 6. Stir into hot mixture. 7. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and clear, about 5 minutes' boiling. 8. Makes 4 main-dish servings or 6 or more appetizer servings. 9. Serve with fried Shrimp, or a dip for Chicken Fingers or strips. 10. Add rice for a main meal. |
