Cutout Sugar Cookies With Butter Icing |

A lady brought these cookies and her old family recipe. These are a wonderfully flavored sugar cookie. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
1 cup sugar |
1 egg |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
3 cups flour |
3 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 cup milk |
4 tablespoons shortening |
3 tablespoons milk |
1 pinch salt |
2 cups powdered sugar |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. Thoroughly cream butter and sugar.
2. Add egg and beat well.
3. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla and mix thoroughly.
4. Roll on lightly floured surface and cut with floured cookie cutter.
5. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 375 for 5 minutes or until firm. Cool dough before icing.
6. For icing, cream all ingredients. Add enough milk to make icing spread easily. Add food coloring if desired.
