bland, sturdy bread or rye bread |

lemon juice, malt vinegar or rice vinegar |
Directions:
1. Additions: A couple drops of hot sauce; a light film of a favorite salad dressing; grated onion or diced green onions; minced chives; a dash of paprika; a dash of granulated garlic; a dash of celery salt; a generous dusting of Old Bay seasoning; a sprinkle of fresh dill or dried dillweed; Italian seasoning (such as a dry mix for Italian dressing); chopped or thinly-sliced, cold-steamed shrimp; smoked salmon; olive slices; pimentos or roasted red peppers; avocado, alfalfa sprouts and pepperoncini; crisp bacon slices; curry powder, preferably blended into mayo; grated Parmesan, Romano or Asiago. In place of mayonnaise or cream cheese, try hummus, brie or mango chutney. |
