This is an Indian style side dish to spicy curries. I like it on bread too. I should have photographed this, but it was gone too quickly! Ingredients:
1 cup plain yogurt |
1 small onion, very finely diced |
1 small cucumber, peeled and finely chopped |
1/2 tsp black onion seeds (get them at your local asian shop) |
1/2 tsp cumin powder |
1 tbsp oil or ghee |
salt and pepper to taste |
Directions:
1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the oil. 2. Add the onion and saute until almost glassy. Add the black onion seeds and stir until you can hear them start to pop. 3. Add the cumin and cook until the fragrance comes out. 4. Remove from the heat and let cool. 5. Mix the yogurt, cucumber and the salt and pepper. Add the cooled onion and spice mixture and stir to combine. 6. Put in the refidgerator for about a half hour or overnight. |
