My husband's grandmother was famous for this bread. They lived in France for awhile so this should be the real deal. Also, very nice for those of us without bread machines! Ingredients:
3 (1/4 ounce) packets yeast |
2 1/2 cups warm water |
6 tablespoons salad oil |
1/3 cup sugar |
flour |
4 teaspoons salt |
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in water. 2. Add other ingredients and enough flour to make a stiff dough. 3. Let rise, punch down, and make into three or four long, thin loaves. 4. Place on baking sheets dusted wiht corn meal and let rise. 5. Cut gashes into loaves, and place into a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. 6. For a glaze, you can brush tops with mixture of one beaten egg white and 2 tablespoons of water. |
