From Simply Southern - Familiar Foods With A Unique Southern Flair. Ingredients:
butter, softened |
8 slices white bread |
4 slices ham |
4 slices american cheese |
1 tomato, thinly sliced |
prepared mustard (to taste) |
2 eggs, lightly beaten |
2 tablespoons milk |
1/8 teaspoon onion salt |
1 1/4 cups crushed potato chips |
Directions:
1. Spread butter on 1 side of 4 slices of the bread. 2. Layer 1 slice ham, 1 slice cheese and 1 to 2 tomato slices on each of the buttered bread slices. 3. Spread mustard on the remaining bread and place bread on top of the sandwiches. 4. Mix the eggs, milk and onion salt in a shallow dish. Dip each side of the sandwiches in the egg mixture, then in the potato chips, patting to push the potato chips into the bread. 5. Place the sandwiches in a lightly greased skillet. Cook for 2 minutes per side or until browned and crisp. |
