I had to try this recipe because it was submitted by someone who had the recipe since 1940 when she was a teenager and just learning to cook. This makes a terrific cookie. Ingredients:
1 cup butter or 1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 1/2 cups white flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups quick oatmeal
1 teaspoon vanilla
chopped nuts (optional)
Directions:
1. Cream sugars and shortening.
2. Add eggs.
3. Combine all the dry ingredients and add to mixture gradually, blending well.
4. Drop batter by teaspoonfuls onto baking sheet and bake at 350 for 8 to 10 minutes.
