I made this today and it really is our favorite crisp recipe. I've tried others just to see if I can top this one and this really is the best. The topping is crisp and sweet and the apples are moist and tart. A scoop of vanilla ice cream is always a great addition. Ingredients:
filling |
10 cups all-purpose apples, peeled, cored and sliced |
1 cup white sugar |
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 cup lemon juice |
1/4 cup water (don't skip this part) |
topping |
1 cup old fashioned oats (quick cooking ok too) |
1 cup all-purpose flour |
1 cup packed brown sugar |
1/2 tsp. cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon baking powder |
1/4 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 cup butter, melted (melting the butter is really important to make the crisp crisp!) |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350. 2. Filling: 3. In large bowl, mix first 5 ingredients and spread in greased 9x13 pan. 4. Pour water over apples. 5. Topping: 6. In medium bowl, mix first 6 ingredients and then stir in the melted butter and mix well. 7. Crumble the mixture with your fingers over the apples. 8. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. |
