Try these delicious, buttery morsels with your afternoon tea or with some delicious ice cream. From the Mississippi Valley chapter of the United States Regional Cookbook, Culinary Arts Institute of Chicago, 1947. Chilling time not included in preparation time. Ingredients:
1 cup butter |
1 cup sugar |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 egg, well beaten |
2 cups flour |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
Directions:
1. Sift salt, flour and baking soda together; set aside. 2. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy; add egg and beat. 3. Fold in flour mixture. 4. Knead well, adding more flour if necessary to make a stiff dough. 5. Shape into rolls and place in refrigerator to chill thoroughly. 6. Slice thin and bake in a preheated 400F oven for about 8 minutes or until golden. 7. Place cookies on a wire rack until cool. |
