This is a recipe I used to make for a local restruant that closed down several years ago. I have adopted it to what I have found works! I've used a caramel sauce on top with vanilla ice cream and it was delicious! If you don't have caramel sauce, you make your own from either recipe: #69479 or #78088. Oat topping can be made ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to use. Ingredients:
1 cup flour |
1 cup brown sugar (packed) |
1 cup oats |
10 tablespoons butter, melted |
6 large granny smith apples, peeled and sliced |
3/4 cup sugar |
1 tablespoon flour |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. 2. Grease a 9x9 pan (or another small baking pan of similar size). 3. Mix dry indgredients for the oat topping in a medium bowl. 4. Add butter and mix completely. 5. Pour mixture into the 9x9 pan and place in oven for 8 minutes stirring occasionaly. Set aside to cool (mixture will harden as it cools). 6. Set oven to 350 degrees. 7. Mix dry ingredients for the apple mixture in a small bowl. 8. Toss apples and sugar mixture together until apples are completely covered. 9. Pour apples into a 9x9 pan and cover completely with the oat topping. 10. Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the oven for 30 minutes. 11. Suggested additions: vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. |
