                    Here's a recipe I use to fill cupcakes that tastes very similar to the filling in many popular commercial snack cakes. Kids love it! Ingredients: 
                    
                        
                                                5 tbsp. flour  |  
                                                1 c. milk  |  
                                                1 c. granulated sugar  |  
                                                1/2 c. white shortening  |  
                                                1/2 c. butter, softenend  |  
                                                1 tsp. vanilla (use clear vanilla extract, if you have it)  |  
                                                
                     
                    Directions: 
                    
                        
                            
                                1. Heat the milk and flour over medium heat until thick, stirring constantly. Let cool until completely cool - THIS IS IMPORTANT. 2. Beat the sugar, shortening, butter, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add the cooled flour/milk mixture and beat again until light and fluffy. This may take several minutes. 3. *A stand mixer makes the beating process a lot easier. Do not use 'diet' margarine or spreads or the filling will not work.                              |
