Ingredients:
1/4 cup(s) water |
1 cup(s) brown sugar unpacked |
10 ounce(s) challah sliced 1 inch thick |
4 whole(s) egg whites |
1 cup(s) egg substitute |
1 1/2 cup(s) nonfat milk |
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract |
1 teaspoon(s) rum optional |
1 teaspoon(s) powdered sugar |
1 teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon |
Directions:
1. In a small saucepan melt brown sugar and water of moderate-low heat, stirring, until smooth and melted (about 1 min). Pour into a 13x9 inch baking dish coated with cooking spray. 2. Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish, squeezing them slightly to fit. 3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, egg substitute, milk, vanilla, rum, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and salt until combined well. Pour evenly over bread. Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours or overnight. 4. Preheat oven to 350 and bring bread to room temperature. 5. Bake uncovered, in middle of oven, until puffed and edges are pale golden, about 40-50 minutes. 6. Top with cinnamon and powdered sugar. |
