This recipe from Pillsbury makes a great snack with a cup of coffee. It is reminiscent of a danish. The braided effect makes it look so pretty! Ingredients:
4 oz cream cheese |
1 tbsp sugar |
1 tsp lemon zest |
1/4 tsp vanilla |
1 egg yolk |
8 oz can of pillsbury crescent dinner rolls |
1 egg white, beaten |
powdered sugar |
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease cookie sheet. 2. In small bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, lemon zest vanilla and egg yolk. 3. Separate dough into 4 rectangles; firmly press perforations to seal. 4. Spoon about 2 Tbsp of cream cheese mixture lengthwise down center third of each rectangle. 5. Make cuts 1/2-inch apart on each side of rectangles, just to the edge of filling. 6. Fold strips of dough at an angle across filling, alternating from side to side to give a braided appearance. 7. Place on prepared cookie sheet. 8. Brush with beaten egg white. 9. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 16 minutes or until golden brown. 10. Cool; sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar. 11. **Note: Although the recipe did not call for it, I think adding a Tbsp of cherry or blueberry pie filling over the cheese mixture before baking would make this more like a danish. I haven't tried adding the pie filling yet so I hope that it will work out as I imagined it to! |
