from the Mossey River community cookbook I add more swiss cheese than the recipe calls for, and I also leave out thyme and do 1/8 tsp nutmeg. Ingredients:
2 lbs small turnips |
1 cup thinly sliced onion |
1 1/2 tablespoons flour |
1 cup skim milk |
1/8-1/4 teaspoon dried thyme |
1/8-1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
black pepper |
2 tablespoons shredded swiss cheese |
Directions:
1. Peel and quarter turnips. 2. steam turnips with onions until turnips are tender. 3. In a saucepan whisk flour with 2 tbsp milk until smooth. 4. Add remaining milk and cook until thickened. 5. Add spices. 6. Pour over turnip that is in a 1-1/2 qt ovenproof bowl. 7. Sprinkle with cheese. 8. Bake 350 for 15 min. |
