This is one of my husband's favorites! Ingredients:
1 head green cabbage |
1 small onion |
1/2 tsp salt |
1 tbsp sugar |
1/2 c butter |
1/2 c flour |
black pepper |
1 can evaporated milk |
Directions:
1. Cut cabbage in 1/4 inch slices. Put in saucepan. Slice and add the onion. Sprinkle in salt and a little sugar. Add enough water to cover and bring to a boil. Turn off heat and let stand on the burner (cabbage will continue to cook in the hot liquid). Melt the butter in a saucepan and combine with the flour and a small amount of the liquid from the cabbage. Spoon the cabbage into the mixture; add pepper, salt, and sugar to taste. Stir in evaported milk and serve. |
