This is cranberry sauce to write home about. It gets a surprise pungency from horseradish and a sweet splash of sugar. It's a beautiful jewel-toned appetizer when spooned over cream cheese. Or you may choose to give a gift jar of it to the cook. Ingredients:
1 (16-ounce) can whole-berry cranberry sauce |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/3 cup minced onion |
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese |
garnishes: fresh rosemary sprigs, fresh cranberries |
Directions:
1. Stir together first 5 ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring often. Remove from heat. Cover and chill 1 hour or up to 3 days. 2. When ready to serve, spoon Cran-Horseradish Sauce over cream cheese on a plate. Garnish, if desired. Serve with assorted crackers. |
