My parents have a couple of crabapple trees on their farm. The trees have gotten so big now, that to pick the crabapples we need to get in the loader bucket of the tractor, but it's worth it to make this bread! Ingredients:
1/2 c. butter |
1 c. sugar |
2 eggs |
2 tbsp. buttermilk |
2 c. flour |
1/2 tsp. salt |
1 tsp. baking soda |
2 c. chopped crabapple, skins on but stems and seeds removed |
1/2 c. nuts (optional) |
1/2 c. candied orange slices, diced |
Directions:
1. Cream butter and sugar 2. Add eggs and buttermilk 3. Mix in dry ingredients 4. Fold in crabapple, nuts, and orange slices 5. Bake at 350ยบ F for 45-50 minutes, or until done, in a greased and floured loaf pan(s). 6. If desired, you can top with a mixture of with 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon, and 2 tbsp. butter 15 minutes before done baking. |
