This is a cake recipe I tried for Confederate Memorial Day... Ingredients:
1 (18.25 ounce) package white cake mix |
1 cup shortening |
1 (2 pound) package confectioners' sugar |
1/2 cup water |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
blue and red food coloring |
Directions:
1. Prepare and bake cake according to package directions, using two greased 10-in. square baking pans... 2. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks... 3. For frosting, in a mixing bowl, combine the shortening, sugar, water, salt and vanilla... 4. Beat on medium speed for 5-8 minutes or until fluffy... 5. Place one cake on a serving plate; spread with 2/3 cup frosting... 6. Top with remaining cake... 7. *In a small bowl* 8. Combine 2/3 cup frosting and blue food coloring... 9. In another bowl, combine 1-2/ cups frosting and red food coloring... 10. Fill pastry or plastic bag with 1/4 cup white frosting; cut a small hole in the corner of the bag and set aside... 11. Frost cake top and sides with remaining white frosting... 12. With blue frosting, make the crossing bars... 13. With red frosting, fill in 4-sections... 14. Pipe white stars over blue frosting... 15. Pipe white stripes on outside of blue bars... 16. Pipe white stripe around outside of rebel flag... |
