After a long search for a cowboy bread recipe that tasted exactly like the one I used to eat in elementary school I found this one. It came from and I absolutely loved it! Ingredients:
3 cups flour |
2 cups light brown sugar |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 cup butter |
3 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg |
1 cup buttermilk |
3 eggs |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. 2. Blend flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, soda, spices and butter. Set aside 1 cup of the mixture for crumb topping. 3. Add buttermilk and eggs and blend until smooth. (Do this by hand.) 4. Pour into greased 9 1/2 x 13 x 2 pan. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. 5. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm or cooled. |
