Bring country to the table for breakfast or brunch. The addition of Pepper Jack cheese gives it punch; seasoned croutons make it savory; half and half makes it so creamy. Red and green pepper make it festive. Delicious. Ingredients:
1-1/2 pounds tennessee pride sausage or your favorite, hot or mild |
1 package (5-1/2 oz.) herb seasoned croutons |
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese |
2 cups shredded pepper jack cheese |
1/4 cup minced onion |
8 eggs, beaten |
2 cups half and half cream |
1-1/2 cups milk |
1-1/2 teaspoons dry hot mustard |
salt and pepper to taste |
may garnish with chopped red and green pepper |
Directions:
1. Cook sausage in a large skillet , crumbling, until browned 2. Drain, set aside 3. Spread croutons on the bottom of a lightly greased 9 x 13 baking dish 4. Cover croutons with cheddar and Pepper Jack chesses 5. Sprinkle cooked sausage and onion over cheeses 6. In a large bowl, beat together eggs, cream, milk, mustard, salt and pepper 7. Pour mixture evenly over sausage 8. Cover and refrigerate casserole for 8 hours 9. Bake the casserole at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes 10. Let stand for about 20 minutes before serving 11. Garnish with freshly chopped red and green peppers for a festive presentation |
