Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
2 teaspoons sugar |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar |
1/2 cup shortening |
3/4 cup buttermilk |
Directions:
1. Sift dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add buttermilk to flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface; knead lightly 3 to 5 times or until smooth. 2. Pat dough out to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/4-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes. |
