My great grandmother passed this down to her daughter, then to her daughter (my mother), then to me. I'm sure there are lots of recipes out there. The seasonings are not measured out as I just sprinkle them (to taste) until I get the taste I want. Read more . That's the way Southern cooks used to do. Ingredients:
1 9 round pone of southern cornbread (no sugar please) |
4 baked biscuits |
6 - 8 cups chicken or turkey broth |
3 - 4 beaten eggs |
1/2 cup chopped onion |
1/4 cup chopped celery |
dried sage to taste |
poultry seasoning to taste |
salt to taste |
black pepper to taste |
8 tablespoons butter or margarine |
Directions:
1. Bake 1 pone cornbread. Crumble the cornbread in large heatproof round mixing bowl. Heat the chicken/turkey broth.
