Fresh corn kernels and smoked Gouda combine in this savory custard that's sure to be an instant hit in your house.;) Recipe from Country Living & has been tested by Country Living. This makes a wonderful main dish for a vegatarian meal. Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups heavy cream |
1 cup milk |
1 3/4 cups grated smoked gouda cheese |
1 cup fresh breadcrumb |
3 egg yolks |
1 cup about 2 ears fresh corn kernels |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper |
1 -2 pinch crushed red pepper flakes |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400ºF and butter a 10 1/2 by 7-inxh baking dish; set aside. 2. Heat cream & milk over medium heat until simmering. 3. Reduce heat to low and stir in 1 1/2 cups cheese until melted. 4. Add bread crumbs and remove from heat; and cool for 10 minutes. 5. Whisk in egg yolks, 3/4 cups corn, salt, black pepper & crushed red pepper flakes. 6. Pour custard into prepared dish and top with remaining 1/4 cup corn and 1/4 cup cheese. 7. Place dish in a large roasting, pour 1 inch hot water into pan, and bake until custard sets, about 1 1/4 hours. |
