My husband and boys think this is the real deal Ingredients:
1 1/3 c. sugar, divided |
3/4 c egg substitute |
3/4 tsp vanilla extract |
24 oz. evaporated skim milk (2 12 oz. cans) |
Directions:
1. Place 1 c sugar in a heavy pan over medium heat; cook 5 minutes or until sugar dissolves (do not stir). Continuue cooking until golden and stir well. Immediately pour into a 9 inch round cake pan, tipping until sugar coats bottom of cake pan, and set aside. 2. Combine remaining 1/3 c sugar, egg substitute, milk and vanilla; stir well. Pour into prepared cake pan; place in a large, shallow pan. 3. Add hot water to larger pan to a depth of 1 inch. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. 4. Remove cake pan from water; let cool one hour on wire rack Cover and chill 4 hours. 5. To serve, loosen edges with a knife or rubber spatula. Place a serving ; invert flan onto plate. Drizzle remaining syrup onto plate.plate upside down on the cake pan |
