This is one of my grandmother's recipes. The secret is the addition of black walnuts. Regular walnuts will not give the same special flavor. Ingredients:
1 cup butter |
1 cup sugar |
1 cup packed brown sugar |
2 eggs |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 1/2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon cream of tartar |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon salt |
3 cups old fashioned oats or 3 cups quick oats |
1 cup black walnut, chopped |
Directions:
1. Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Blend in eggs and vanilla. 2. Sift together flour, Cream of Tartar, baking soda, and salt. Add to sugar and egg mixture. 3. Add oats and nuts to batter. 4. Chill thoroughly. You may roll into balls, or form dough into a roll in waxed paper and slice approximately 1/4 thick for baking. 5. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 for 12-15 minutes. |
