I was looking for something my daughter could do to keep busy when it was raining and we couldn't go outside to play. Ingredients:
1 cup uncooked white rice |
liquid food coloring |
1 baking sheet |
ziploc bag |
paper towels |
Directions:
1. Place rice in a ziploc bag. I started with 1/2c rice when I only wanted to make one color. If you want to make several, I would split the rice up into several baggies. If you don't have any ziploc bags you can use any plastic container w/ a cover. 2. Place several drops of food coloring on top of rice (as many as you need to get your desired color). 3. Close either container or baggie, whichever you are using, and mix the rice w/ the food coloring. 4. Finally, place rice on either a baking pan or on top of several paper towels and leave out for about an hour to dry. I chose this method as I didn't want to dry it in the oven. 5. Now let your kids go crazy with it. We took an old cool aid tube and put rice in it to make a noise maker. We also drew pictures on colored paper with glue and then put the rice on it. Note: glue sticks didn't hold the rice very well. |
