This recipe is from Fresenburg Bakery. This is enough dough for 2 coffeecakes or 2 strudels. Prep time includes rising time. Ingredients:
2 (1/4 ounce) packages yeast |
1/2 cup warm water (110Â f.) |
1/4 cup plus 2 t. granulated sugar |
1/3 cup shortening (regular or butter-flavored) |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 egg |
yellow food coloring (optional) |
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
Directions:
1. To make the dough: Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside. In a large bowl, beat sugar, shortening and salt until fluffy. Add egg and a few drops of yellow coloring; mix well. Blend in flour, then add yeast and mix to a smooth, elastic dough. 2. Cover bowl; let rise until doubled, 45 to 60 minutes. |
