From Mom's recipe box. Ingredients:
1 cup milk |
1/3 cup sugar |
1/3 cup butter |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast or 5/8 ounce fresh yeast cake |
1/2 cup lukewarm water |
2 eggs, beaten |
3 3/4 cups flour |
1/2 cup packed brown sugar |
2 tablespoons flour |
2 teaspoons cinnamon |
1/2 cup chopped almonds or 1/2 cup walnuts |
2 tablespoons butter, melted |
Directions:
1. Heat milk to scalding. Add sugar, butter and salt; heat until butter melts. Cool to lukewarm. 2. Add yeast, eggs and flour; mix thoroughly. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and set in a warm place until double in volume. Punch down and beat well. 3. Butter and flour 2 9 cake pans, or a 9x13x2 pan. Preheat oven to 375°F 4. Combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nuts and melted butter until mixture is crumbly. 5. Spread batter in cake pan(s). Sprinkle with topping. Bake in preheated oven 25-30 minutes. |
