Bake Classic Gingerbread as a sweet treat that is great all year round. Serve with coffee in the morning or enjoy as dessert. Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
2 tablespoons ground ginger |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves |
1/8 teaspoon salt |
1 cup unsweetened applesauce |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
2 large eggs plus 1 large egg white |
1/2 cup dark molasses |
1 cup packed dark brown sugar |
3/4 cup vegetable oil |
3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 12-cup Bundt pan. 2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt. In a separate bowl, mix applesauce with baking soda. In a third, large bowl, whisk eggs, egg white, molasses, brown sugar and oil until smooth. Add to dry ingredients and gently stir to form a smooth batter. Fold in applesauce mixture. 3. Pour batter into Bundt pan. Bake in center of oven until a toothpick inserted in middle of gingerbread comes out clean, 45 minutes. Cool 5 minutes in pan on wire rack, then unmold to cool completely. Dust with confectioners' sugar and serve. |
