This is a delicious punch...great for the holidays or birthdays. The best part is the use of frozen orange slices as ice cubes (I've used this idea for other drink recipes). I think it came from BHG or LHJ. Ingredients:
1 (3 inch) cinnamon sticks, broken in half |
6 whole cloves |
1 orange |
12 ounces orange juice concentrate |
6 ounces grapefruit juice concentrate |
1 pint lemon sherbet |
1 liter lemon-lime flavored soda, chilled |
mint sprig (to garnish) |
Directions:
1. In a 1-quart saucepan over high heat, heat cinnamon stick, cloves, and 2 cups water to boiling. 2. Reduce heat to low and cover and simmer 20 minutes. 3. Cool slightly. 4. Cut orange into 1/4 inch thick slices. 5. Place orange slices on cookie sheet and freeze until firm. 6. Remove fruit-juice concentrates and sherbet from freezer and let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes to soften. 7. Strain spice liquid into punch bowl and discard spices. 8. Stir in 4 cups of ice water. 9. With wire whisk, stir in softened fruit juice concentrates and sherbet until smooth. 10. Stir in lemon-lime soft drink. 11. Float frozen orange slices in punch. 12. Garnish with mint sprig. |
