Great for snack time or with a cup of tea. Clipped this out of a newspaper it was submitted by a Carolyn Wilson. Ingredients:
1 cup sour cream |
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening |
3 tablespoons sugar |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 egg, beaten |
1 package yeast |
1/4 cup water |
3 cups flour |
1/2 cup butter, softened |
1/3 cup sugar |
cinnamon, to sprinkle |
Directions:
1. Scald together sour cream, shortening and sugar. 2. Remove from heat; cool. 3. Add baking soda, salt and egg. 4. Dissolve yeast in warm water. 5. Add to above mixture. 6. Mix in one cup of the flour at a time. 7. Mix well and placed on floured board and let rise one hour. 8. Roll out in a rectangle about 12x8 inches. 9. Spread bottom half with butter, sugar and then sprinkle lightly with cinnamon. 10. Fold top over and cut in 1/2x9-inch lengthwise stripes. 11. Twist twice and place on greased cookie sheet. 12. Let rise one hour in a warm place. 13. Bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees. 14. Remove form pan and glaze with a powdered sugar icing. |
