I used to make this bread every year for Christmas presents. Until I got my bread machine. Now I am just lazy. This looks really pretty when sliced. Ingredients:
1 pkg active dry yeast |
1/4 cup warm water |
1/2 cup milk |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/4 cup butter |
3/4 tsp salt |
2-1/2 cups all purpose flour, plus more for your board |
1 egg |
3/4 cup raisins |
1 tbs cinnamon |
Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water. 2. Heat milk, 1/4 cup of the sugar, butter and salt to 110F; add to the yeast mixture with 1-1/2 cups of the flour, egg and raisins. Beat for 3 minutes; stir in 1 cup more flour. 3. Turn out on a floured board; knead for 5 minutes. 4. Place in a greased bowl; cover and let rise until doubled, approximately 1 hour. 5. Punch down the dough; roll out into a 9 by 18 inch rectangle. Mix remaining 1/4 cup sugar with the cinnamon; sprinkle over dough. Starting at narrow end, tightly roll up. Place in a greased 9 by 5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise until doubled, approximately 1 hour. 6. Bake in a 350F oven for 40 to 45 minutes. 7. Makes 1 loaf. |
