From Grandma Roberts, a recipe for a quick cinnamon sponge cake.
Ingredients:
1 beaten egg
1/2 cup of sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
sift soda, cinnamon, salt with 1 1/8 cup of flour.
add 1/2 cup of boiling water.
mix in egg, then sugar then molasses.
bake in pan for 35 minutes at 360 degrees.
Directions:
1. Grandma was notoriously brief in her instructions.
2. She did not give me a pan size, loaf or cake.
3. This is a war time recipe and I can't imagine it making a very large cake.
4. I'll admit I haven't made it. I was posting for those with more baking experience to comment and give me guidance on the cake with flushed out instructions.
