From Grandma Roberts, a recipe for a quick cinnamon sponge cake. Ingredients:
1 beaten egg |
1/2 cup of sugar |
1/4 cup molasses |
1 tsp soda |
1 tsp cinnamon |
1/2 tsp salt |
sift soda, cinnamon, salt with 1 1/8 cup of flour. |
add 1/2 cup of boiling water. |
mix in egg, then sugar then molasses. |
bake in pan for 35 minutes at 360 degrees. |
Directions:
1. Grandma was notoriously brief in her instructions. 2. She did not give me a pan size, loaf or cake. 3. This is a war time recipe and I can't imagine it making a very large cake. 4. I'll admit I haven't made it. I was posting for those with more baking experience to comment and give me guidance on the cake with flushed out instructions. |
