Fluffy scones with a subtle taste of cinnamon. Ingredients:
3 c. flour |
1/3 c. sugar |
1 tsp. salt |
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder |
1/2 tsp. baking soda |
3/4 c. (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine |
1 c. buttermilk |
2 tsp. cinnamon |
for egg glaze |
1 egg |
2 1/2 tbsp. sugar |
1 tsp. cinnamon |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. 2. Combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon in a large bowl. 3. Add butter and mix with your fingertips or a fork to a coarse meal. 4. Add buttermilk and mix until just combined. 5. Transfer dough to a floured board and divide into 2 parts. 6. Roll each to 3/4 inch thick rounds. 7. Cut each round into 8 wedges and place slightly separated on a greased baking sheet. 8. Mix egg, 2 1/2 tbsp. sugar, and 1 tsp. cinnamon in small bowl until thoroughly mixed. 9. Using a pastry brush, brush a thin layer onto the wedges. 10. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly browned. 11. Serve warm. |
