These take a little effort but are well worth that effort. These come from a Sunday School classmate who brings these often to class. We love them. Ingredients:
2 packages active dry yeast |
1/2 cup warm (not hot) water |
3/4 cup lukewarm milk |
1 cup butter or margarine melted and cooled |
2 eggs beaten |
1/4 cup sugar |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind |
4-1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
melted butter |
1 cup sugar |
2/3 cup raisins |
2 teaspoons cinnamon |
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water then combine with milk, butter, eggs, sugar, salt, rind and flour. 2. Beat until smooth then cover with a damp cloth then place in refrigerator overnight. 3. Divide dough in half then roll out each half into a rectangle and brush with melted butter. 4. Combine sugar, raisins and cinnamon then sprinkle over dough. 5. Roll up each rectangle as for a jelly roll starting at the short side. 6. Cut each roll into 9 piece then place cut side down 1” apart on greased square pans. 7. Cover with a clean cloth and let rise until doubled in bulk about 1 hour. 8. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. |
