From Good Housekeeping's Book of Cookies. Ingredients:
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour |
1/2 teaspoon baking powder |
1/8 teaspoon salt |
2 tablespoons cinnamon |
1/2 cup shortening |
1/2 cup granulated sugar |
1 whole egg |
1 egg, separated |
1/2 cup chopped nuts |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°. 2. Grease 9 x 9 x 2 pan. 3. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and cinammon. 4. Mix until creamy, shortening,sugar, whole egg and one egg yolk. 5. Gradually stir in flour mixture. Spread in pan. Beat egg white until stiff. Spread over batter. Sprinkle with nuts. 6. Bake 15 to 18 minutes. 7. Cool in pan and then cut into squares. |
