When I was first married, I bought those jarred spaghetti sauces, but I figured I could come up with a recipe just as good. I have to admit, mine tastes just like one of those well known store brand names. And now that the stores are always reducing the amount in their jarred sauces; I'm glad my recipe makes enough to go around. Ingredients:
1 lb lean ground beef |
1/2 cup finely chopped onion |
1/2 cup finely chopped green bell pepper |
1/2 tablespoon salt |
3 -5 dashes pepper |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1 -2 tablespoon dried parsley flakes |
2 teaspoons dried basil leaves |
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano |
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt |
3 -5 dashes paprika |
7 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce |
1 (12 ounce) can tomato paste |
1 (4 ounce) can mushroom stems and pieces, drained |
cooked spaghetti |
parmesan cheese |
Directions:
1. In a Dutch oven or large stock pot, brown ground beef, onion, green peppers;drain off fat. 2. Add the remaining ingredients. 3. Cook over low heat until heated through. 4. Serve with cooked spaghetti and parmesan cheese. 5. Note: I'm not sure of prep time and cooking time;from start to finish. |
