From our Electric magazine by Justin Rowe (age 9) Big Sandy RECC. Receives the Judges' Ooooh-aahh-ahh Award. They look like tiny mice when finished. Ingredients:
24 double-stuffed oreos |
1 cup semisweet chocolat chips |
2 teaspoons shortening |
24 red marachino cherries with stem, well-drained |
24 milk chocolate hershey's kisses |
48 sliced almonds |
1 tube red decorative gel |
Directions:
1. Carefully twist cookies apart. 2. Set aside the halves with cream filling. 3. In a microwave, melt chocolate chips and shortening. 4. Stir until smooth. 5. Holding each cherry by the stem, dip in melted chocolate. 6. Press onto the bottom of a chocolate kiss so that the stem extends straight out or slightly upward (that's his tail). 7. Place chocolate kiss angled sideways onto the cream filling of cookie, with cherry stem extended beyond cookie edge. 8. For ears, place slivered almonds between the cherry and kiss. 9. Refrigerate until set. 10. With red gel, pipe eyes (and mouth if you wish) into each chocolate kiss. 11. Makes 2 dozen. |
