This is my Grandma's recipe. My Mom just made a double batch of these over Thanksgiving weekend. I'm just guessing at how many cookies this makes because it depends on what size cookie cutters you use. Prep time does not include chilling time. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
1/2 cup shortening |
1 2/3 cups sugar |
2 eggs |
4 1/2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 cup sour cream |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. Cream together butter, shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs. Stir in flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Mix in sour cream and vanilla. My Mom uses her hands at this point because the dough is hard to mix. 2. Chill overnight. 3. Roll out 1/4 inch thick and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. 4. Place on ungreased cookie sheets and bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes. 5. My Mom frosts them with an icing made with powdered sugar, softened butter, a few tablespoons of milk and a splash of vanilla. She doesn't measure, just eyeballs it until it's spreadable but not too thick. Then we put on desired sprinkles or colored sugars. |
