CHOCOLATE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Boyd Estate in Dallas, Texas in 1987. Ingredients:
2 ounces chocolate squares |
1-1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk |
1-1/2 cups cake flour sifted |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
6 tablespoons shortening |
1 cup sugar |
2 eggs well beaten |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1/2 cup milk |
Directions:
1. Melt chocolate then add condensed milk and mix well. 2. Line greased pans with paper and grease paper. 3. Pour chocolate mixture into pans and cool. 4. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together. 5. Cream shortening with sugar until fluffy then add eggs and vanilla and beat thoroughly. 6. Add sifted dry ingredients and milk alternately in small amounts. 7. Beat thoroughly after each addition. 8. Pour carefully over chocolate mixture and bake at 350 for 35 minutes. |
