This is so elegant, so creamy, so chocolately and so easy you will be amazed at what comes out of yor oven. i obtained this from an estate sale and have made it for several years. Notation on card indicate this recipe came from a 1942 magazine. Read more . Wow....that's a long time ago. Enjoy. We do Ingredients:
1/4 cup shortening |
2 sticks butter softened |
3 cups granulated sugar |
5 eggs |
3 cups all purpose flour |
1/2 cup cocoa |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 cup buttermilk |
2 teaspoons vanilla extract |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350. 2. Cream shortening, butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. 3. Add eggs one at a time beating for 1 minute after each addition. 4. Measure flour and sift it together with cocoa and baking powder. 5. Sift again. 6. Mix buttermilk and vanilla together in a cup then add to creamed mixture alternating with dry ingredients in thirds. 7. Mix gently just until well blended. 8. Pour into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. 9. Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes. |
