Old fashioned recipe, in loving memory of my aunt. It was a treat going to her house because she always had one of these. Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups sugar |
4 tablespoons cocoa |
6 tablespoons flour |
4 egg yolks |
3 cups milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 pinch salt |
Directions:
1. Mix all together. 2. Cook until thick. 3. Pour into baked pie shell. 4. Cover with meringue. 5. Meringue: Beat 3 egg whites until foamy. 6. Begin adding 6 tablespoons sugar gradually. 7. Continue beating until mixture is shiny and stiff peaks form. 8. Brown lightly in 370 degree oven for about 8 minutes. 9. Watch to prevent burning. |
