This is an easy, healthy treat that the kids love to help make. Print out the recipe and let them practice reading it to you. You have to oversee the boiling, but they can help read the ingredients, measure and, when it's ready, spoon the mixture onto waxed paper. Ingredients:
1 stick butter (don't substitute maragarine.) |
2 cups sugar |
1/4 cup cocoa powder |
1/2 cup milk |
3 cups quick oats |
1/2 cup peanut butter |
Directions:
1. Melt butter in large saucepan. 2. Combine cocoa powder and sugar, then add to melted butter. 3. Stir in milk. 4. Bring to rolling boil, stirring constantly with wooden spoon. 5. Hard boil for 1 1/2 minutes. 6. Add peanut butter, then stir in oats. 7. Drop by spoonsful onto waxed paper. 8. I like to press them down a little bit. 9. Chill until set, about 20 minutes. 10. Watch them disappear! Enjoy! |
