Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Ingredients:
1/2 c. butter |
1 c. sugar |
4 eggs separated |
4 squares (1 oz.) unsweetened chocolate. melted |
1 tsp. vanilla |
1/2 c. cake flour |
1/2 tsp. baking soda |
1/4 tsp. salt |
1/4 c. hot water |
1 pkg. (6 oz.) chocolate bits |
whipped cream |
shaved chocolate |
Directions:
1. Cream butter with 3/4 cup sugar until fluffy. 2. Beat in egg yolks; add melted chocolate and vanilla. 3. Sift together flour, soda and salt. 4. Add to mixutre. 5. Stir in water. 6. Spread quickly into 2 greased pans. (8 inches). 7. Beat egg whites, gradually beating in 1/4 cup sugar until stiff and glossy. 8. Sprinkle chocolate pieces over all. 9. Spread meringue over tops. 10. Bake at 350 degrees about 35 minutes. 11. Cool on racks 10 minutes before removing from pans. 12. Assemble so that meringue layers are together with whip cream between for filling. 13. Frost top with whip cream. 14. Sprinkle with shaved chocolate. |
