CHOCOLATE FRIED PIES This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Evans Estate in Arlington, Texas in 1989. Ingredients:
1/4 cup all purpose |
1/2 cup granulated sugar |
1/4 cup cocoa |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
2 tablespoons butter |
2 cups all purpose baking mix |
1/3 cup milk |
Directions:
1. Combine sugar, flour, salt and cocoa in saucepan. 2. Add milk, vanilla and butter then cook over medium heat until it begins to bubble. 3. Cook 2 minutes longer then remove from heat and add vanilla then allow to cool. 4. Combine baking mix and milk then roll pastry dough as thin as possible. 5. Roll on floured surface then cut into 5” circles and moisten edges with water. 6. Put 1 tablespoon filling in center of circle then fold over and press edges together. 7. Heat 1” oil in skillet to medium heat then place 2 pies at a time in heated oil. 8. Cook until golden brown on one side then turn and brown on other side. 9. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve immediately. |
