Chocolate Dessert Waffles |

These make a great-looking dessert when topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. If you can make regular waffles, you can impress your guests with these! Ingredients:
1/2 cup, 1 stick, butter |
2 ounces, 2 squares, hershey's® unsweetened baking chocolate |
3/4 cup sugar |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
2 eggs |
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon cream of tartar |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 cup buttermilk (if you don't have any on hand, make by adding 1 tablespoon white vinegar to 1 cup milk and let set 10 minutes) |
1 cup chopped nuts, optional |
topping: whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and/or ice cream |
Directions:
1. In a medium saucepan, over low heat, melt buter and chocolate. 2. Add sugar and vanilla, stir until blended. 3. Remove from heat, add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition until well blended. 4. Stir together flour, cream of tartar and baking soda. 5. Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture. 6. Stir in nuts, if using. 7. Bake in waffle iron according to manufacturer's directions. 8. Carefully remove waffle from iron. 9. ***When you first remove the waffle it will be soft, but it will become crisp as it cools*** 10. Serve warm with topping of choice. 11. Makes about 12 5-inch waffles. |
