This cake is formed like a dome, tastes light and delicious AND looks good too. Slices resemble a checkerboard pattern. This recipe always gets raves for its uniqueness. Ingredients:
1 yellow cake mix |
8 oz. bakers semi-sweet chocolate squares (reserve 1/2 sq. for shaving) |
4 eggs / separated |
2 tbsp. sugar |
5 tbsp. water |
1 lg cool whip |
Directions:
1. Bake the yellow cake in a 9 x 13 pan according to box directions. 2. Cool and cut into bite size pieces. 3. Make the sauce by melting the chocolate. Remove from the heat. Add the 4 egg YOLKS, the sugar, & water. 4. Beat the 4 egg WHITES. Fold these into the chocolate mixture. 5. Line a large mixing bowl with wax paper. 6. Layer into bowl 1/3 cake pieces, 1/2 chocolate mixture, 1/3 cake, 1/2 chocolate mixture and end with the last third of the cake. 7. Press down firmly with a paper plate. Refrigerate overnight or at least several hours. 8. Before serving, turn onto a serving plate. Peel off the waxed paper. 9. Ice the dome-like cake with a lg. container of cool whip. Sprinkle shaved chocolate over the top. |
