I have made Chocolate Covered Strawberries for several occasions. Ive always used the store bought bowl that you just microwave and the first few times I made them they turned out great but the last 2 times I made them the chocolate got lumpy before I could finish and when I reheated it it just got worse. I found this recipe online but I haven't tried it yet, I think I will for Valentines Day. Ingredients:
16 ounces semisweet chocolate or 16 ounces white chocolate |
2 tablespoons shortening (crisco) |
1 lb strawberry, with leaves (chilled) |
Directions:
1. Wash and dry strawberries, keeping the leaves on. 2. Insert toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries. 3. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring until smooth. Holding the strawberries by the toothpicks, dip them into the chocolate mixture. Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpicks into the Styrofoam sheet. 4. Let the strawberries dry for a few hours or overnight. 5. If you don't have a Styrofoam sheet you can just lay them on wax paper to cool. I lay the wax paper over cardboard them stick them in the refrigerator to cool. 6. Store in refrigerator until ready to serve if making ahead of time. You can also buy paper candy boxes to transport them from a craft store such as Hobby Lobby or maybe Wal-Mart. 7. For decadently festive strawberries, consider drizzling white chocolate or (dark if you already used white) over the chocolate coated strawberries. Melt 8 oz of white chocolate with 1 TBSP of shortening and drizzle using a spoon. |
